Tips For Getting a Better Spray Tan Result

We all love the look of a nice summer tan. With more and more people concerned with exposing their skin to too much UV light, or simply just being too busy to tan outdoors or indoors, the move to spray tanning is on the increase. Getting the best result from your session requires some insider information. Here are a few tips to make your spray tan gorgeous every time.

First, be sure to prep your skin before you head off to your session.  Shave and exfoliate to remove any dry skin or dead skin cells. The smoother your skin going into the session, the longer the tan effect will last.  Use a water based moisturizer after you shower, oil based products on your skin will keep the spray solution from adhering to your skin.

Once you arrive for your spray tan session, be sure to use a good amount of the provided barrier lotion. This lotion should be put on areas of your skin that tend to be drier – elbows, knees, heels, etc. The spray solution will be darker on these drier areas if you miss this step, leaving you with uneven patches.

Finally, after you have finished getting sprayed, be sure to towel off thoroughly. A lot of people think that simply patting dry is best because they are afraid they will wipe off all the self tanner. This is not the case! Circular motions, rubbing the solution in as you’re wiping it off is best. The self tanning solution has “grabbed” onto your skin and isn’t going anywhere! Anything you see coming off on the towel is likely the bronzer added to the solution to give an instant color effect and won’t change your final result. Be sure to wipe off immediately and completely to avoid any streaking.
